TMEIC has been awarded a contract for electrical control and automation for Dragon Steel’s new hot strip mill in Taichung, Taiwan. This complete green field Hot Strip Mill project includes automation, drives and controls for two Furnaces, two Roughing Mills/Edgers, one Edge Heater, seven Finish Mill stands, two Downcoilers and a Coil Conveyor area. Main drive motors and control will be supplied from factories in Japan. System engineering and test will be performed by TMEIC GE in Virginia.

The TMEIC group is providing overall Project Management, Engineering and manufacturing for Main Drives, Auxiliary drives, Edge Heater, L1 Controls, L2 Controls, models, major gauges and Construction Engineering for the project.
The project utilizes eleven TM-70 IEGT PWM main drives, and more than 160 auxiliary IGBT PWM drives (TMdrive-10). New generation L1 controllers “nv series” are provided with high-speed control network “TC-net 100” and “TC-net I/O”. The first Hot Coil is planned for commissioning in 2010.
