TMEIC and TMEIC GE’s motors, drives and automation control are providing stellar service at Severstal.
The new Severstal plant in Columbus, Mississippi, has been up and running since August 2007. Severstal’s Hot Mill Manager, Dan Lambert, is very pleased with TMEIC’s performance:
“The main mill motors at Severstal have been in production status since August 2007. There have been zero issues with the reliability of these motors. There have been zero issues relating to performance from these motors. There has been one scheduled service inspection by TMEIC which revealed no issues relating to the mechanical and electrical integrity or issues stemming from installation of the motors. The installation teams sent by TMEIC to support the motor installation were top notch. They had a high level of technical expertise and took great pride in the equipment and services they were providing. The design of these machines and the ancillary systems lends to minimal maintenance requirements and what appears to be a long service life. Install it and forget it! This was a very nice approach afforded by the TMEIC motors and installation crew during our construction phase when there were plenty of other issues on which we had to focus our attention.”

TMEIC and TMEIC GE’s role in the new steel mill
TMEIC energy efficient drive systems are applied to the thin slab continuous caster/hot strip mill and TMEIC GE’s advanced process automation and drive systems are applied to the pickling line tandem cold mill, temper mill and continuous galvanizing line. The production and quality results are excellent. The equipment supplied includes AC motors, TMdrive-10 AC drives, TMdrive-70 high-power AC drives, V-series programmable logic controllers, operator interfaces, supervisory computers, and associated high speed communication networks.
