Vehicle Profile: 2017 Jeep® Grand Cherokee
The SUV that leads the pack on- and off-road

If you’re looking for an SUV, there is arguably no better choice than the Jeep® Grand Cherokee.  Despite being the most awarded SUV ever, the Grand Cherokee continues to find ways to improve.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is no stranger to recognition. It was named the "Best SUV to Buy" by the Car Connection, along with a seventh consecutive “Best Buy” designation from Consumers Digest in the mid-size SUV category. Most recently, it earned a fourth straight 5-Star Overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The Grand Cherokee returns for the 2017 model year with a slew of changes, including a new Trailhawk® model that’s perfect for even the most rugged terrain. Thanks to its 18-inch Kevlar reinforced Goodyear off-road tires, red tow hooks, skid plates, the Quadra-Drive® II 4x4 system with rear Electronic Limited-slip Differential and model specific Quadra-Lift® air suspension, the Trailhawk model earned Jeep’s coveted Trail Rated® badge.

Some of the Trailhaw’s impressive performance specs include 10.8-inches of ground clearance, 36.1 degree approach angle (when lower front fascia is removed), 27.1 degree breakover angle and 22.8 degree departure angle. Inside, the Trailhawk features a unique interior with leather/performance suede seats, red accent stitching and the Uconnect® 8.4 infotainment system. Stepping up to the luxurious Summit model gets you a new handcrafted leather interior and advanced safety equipment to go along with its revised exterior for 2017. The range-topping SRT model also gets a small makeover. Finally, the 2017 Grand Cherokee gets three new exterior colors: Walnut Brown, Rhino and Diamond Black.

The 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered in six trim levels: Laredo, Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit and SRT. Depending on model, you get one of four impressive engines, each paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The standard engine is a 3.6-liter V6 that makes up to 295 hp and 260 lb/ft of torque, while higher trim levels are available with the 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 that produces 360 hp and 390 lb/ft of torque. Towing is rated up to 6,200 pounds and 7,400 pounds respectively. For buyers who put an emphasis on fuel economy, the Grand Cherokee is available with a 240 hp 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 with an impressive 420 lb/ft of torque that helps it return up to a best-in-class 30 mpg on the highway while still maintaining the 7,400-pound towing capability. Performance enthusiasts will love the 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine on SRT models that delivers a pulse-pounding 475 hp and 470 lb/ft of torque with a sub five-second sprint to 60 mph. The Grand Cherokee can also be equipped with four different four-wheel drive systems, as well as the Selec-Terrain® Traction Control System.

The newest Grand Cherokee offers more than 70 safety and security features. Standard features include seven airbags, Hill Start Assist, Electronic Stability Control, rear park assist system and a rear backup camera (both now standard for 2017); however, safety-conscious drivers can also add a Blind Spot Monitoring System, Lanesense® Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist, Forward Collision Warning With Active Braking, and Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist.

The 2017 Grand Cherokee is available with Bi-Xenon High Intensity Discharge headlights, premium LED fog lights and wheels ranging from 17 to 20 inches. The five-passenger cabin puts an emphasis on comfort and technology. The availale perforated Nappa leather and real wood trim really set the Grand Cherokee apart.  The Grand Cherokee is also available with the award-winning Uconnect system, plus two premiums sound systems including one by Harman Kardon® with 19 speakers. All models include standard dual-zone automatic temperature control and a 60/40 split-folding second row seat that can help unlock up to 68.3 cubic feet of cargo space.

According to Edmunds, “The Grand Cherokee is simply an excellent all-around vehicle, whether you're looking for trail-busting toughness or lap-of-luxury refinement. It's that comprehensive skill set that makes Jeep's midsizer a perennial all-star pick.”
