Vehicle Profile: The 2012 Subaru Legacy
Standard all-wheel drive in a unique sedan starting under $20,000.

Fresh off a recent redesign, the 2012 Subaru Legacy offers those looking to stand out from the midsize family sedan crowd a unique machine with attractive styling, sports car performance, class-leading safety, generous cargo space and, of course, the legendary Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system.

The 2012 Subaru Legacy (MSRP starting at $19,995) is available in 2.5i, 2.5i Premium, 2.5i Limited, 2.5GT Limited, 3.6R, 3.6R Premium and 3.6R Limited models.

All 2.5i models are equipped with a horizontally-opposed, 2.5-liter four-cylinder SUBARU BOXER® powerplant punching out 170 hp and 170 lb/ft of torque, through a standard six-speed manual transmission on 2.5i and 2.5i Premium models. A Lineartronic® Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) is optional on these two and is standard on the 2.5i Limited. With the Lineartronic® CVT, the Legacy 2.5i returns up to 31 mpg highway.

The 3.6R models get a 3.6-liter horizontally-opposed SUBARU BOXER® six-cylinder putting out serious power numbers of 256 hp and 247 lb/ft of torque through the standard five-speed adaptive automatic. The 3.6-liter is an ideal balance of performance and economy, returning 25 mpg highway while sprinting from zero-to-60 in around seven seconds.

For even more performance, the 2.5GT straps a turbocharger onto the 2.5-liter four-cylinder, laying down 265 hp and 258 lb/ft of torque through the standard six-speed manual. The 2.5GT turbo-four impressively combines an outstanding sub-six-second zero-to-60 time with an EPA-estimated 25 mpg highway.

The Legacy offers buyers an abundance of powertrain and equipment options. For under $20,000, the 2.5i is well-equipped, featuring full power accessories, air conditioning, cruise control, 16-inch steel wheels and a four-speaker stereo with CD and auxiliary input.

Choose the 2.5i Premium to get a leather-wrapped steering wheel, 10-way power driver’s seat and 16-inch alloy wheels. The 2.5i Limited offers 17-inch alloy wheels, foglamps, leather upholstery, heated front seats and side mirrors, the Lineartronic® CVT and a nine-speaker, 440-watt harman/kardon® stereo with Bluetooth® integration.

The turbocharged 2.5GT strikes an exterior look all its own with a functional hood scoop, carbon fiber trim, dual chrome-tipped exhaust outlets and 18-inch alloy wheels.

On 3.6R models, all the features are similar, except every 3.6R comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, dual chrome-tipped exhaust outlets and more powerful braking to accommodate the larger engine. Limited models with both engines can also be outfitted with an available voice-controlled, touchscreen navigation system and a rear-vision camera.

Interior space in the Legacy is generous, offering all occupants plenty of room to stretch out. A 14.7 cubic foot trunk and 60/40-split/folding rear seatbacks are standard on all models, so the Legacy can swallow cargo with ease. Visibility out all windows of the Legacy is excellent, and brushed silver controls and interior trim exude a level of quality, style and luxury lacking in competitive family sedans.

The Legacy also stands out for its athleticism. Its combination of Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and the SUBARU BOXER engine give the Legacy superior handling and traction in all conditions, and a low center of gravity helps stability during emergency maneuvers.

Standard safety equipment on all Legacy models includes four-wheel Antilock Brakes, Vehicle Dynamics Control and the Traction Control System, along with six airbags. The Legacy earned a perfect crash-testing score of “Good” from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in frontal and side-impact testing and roof strength. And, like every other Subaru model, the superior safety performance of the Legacy earned it a “2011 Top Safety Pick” from the IIHS.

The Legacy also earned the “2011 Residual Value Award – Best Midsize Car” from ALG for its higher predicted resale value than any other midsize car in its class. Not only is the 2012 Legacy a unique, standout machine in a sea of family sedan banality, it’s also a standout value in an extremely competitive value segment.

If you’re tired of blending into anonymity during the daily commute, stop into our showroom today and take a closer look at the unique style and performance of the 2012 Subaru Legacy.
