Russell "Barry" Evans Award Fund Established
An award fund has been created in memory of the late Russell ‘Barry’ B. Evans by a gracious donor. The award will be to support an undergraduate returning-adult student in the College of Earth & Mineral Sciences. Barry Evans always tried to live life to the fullest and had an endless curiosity for both science and knowledge in general. Being the son of a Penn State graduate, he learned to love his parent’s alma mater from a young age while accompanying his family on visits to campus. He had initially started his undergraduate program at PSU directly following high school, but due to personal matters was unable to stay and complete his degree. During his time away from Penn State, Barry learned a trade and enjoyed the work that he was doing. However, his thirst for knowledge and interest in preserving the environment brought him back to Penn State to pursue a geography degree. Regrettably, Barry passed away before he was able to complete his degree. Barry was fortunate to receive grant and award funding when he returned to the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences as an adult learner. He would be proud to know that this award was established in his name to help others receive an education and be a part of the Penn State experience and tradition. He was a great humanitarian and giving individual throughout his life.
