Summary The capability to send messages to Modbus RTU Slaves has been added to VersaMax CPUs. A COMMREQ Interface to initiate Modbus RTU messages has been added to the CPU firmware. The new version is available (as a firmware upgrade) on the GE Fanuc WEB site. Shipments of new units with RTU Master capability is expected in late July. The price of the VersaMax CPUs will not be affected.
Features/Description VersaMax CPUs have been enhanced to support being a Master for Modbus RTU serial protocol. The CPU 001,002,005, and E05 are all updated. RTU master can be used on Port 1 or Port 2 or both.
COMMREQs have been added with the following functionality
Initialize Port for RTU Master operation
Clear RTU Master Diagnostic Status Word
Read RTU Master Diagnostic Status Word
Send RTU Diagnostic Query (Func Code 8 Loopback/Maintenance)
Send RTU Read/Force/Preset Query
Function Codes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 15, 16, 17, 67 are supported.
Note: Func Code 67 is Read Scratch Pad Memory (for Series 6 compatibility)
 
In addition, optional control of RTS and CTS is provided to facilitate operation with modems and radio modems.
Compatibility A firmware update will be available to add RTU master to VersaMax CPUs The upgrade will go on GE Fanuc WEB site in the Technical Support section once it is available.
CPU001 must have revision or higher hardware (IC200CPU001-Cx) to be upgradable for RTU Master operation.

Ordering Information All new orders VersaMax CPUs are automatically upgraded to the current verson. Orders placed after the version with RTU Master functionality is released, will ship with the RTU Master functionality.
