Modbus TCP Protocol added to 90-30 Ethernet Interface
IC693CMM321-FH

The Series 90-30 Ethernet Interface (IC693CMM321) is being enhanced with the addition of Modbus TCP protocol. Both Client (Master) and Server (Slave) capabilities are being added. The new version is expected to be available (as a firmware upgrade) in the second half of June, shipment of new units is expected in early July. The price of the IC693CMM321 will not be affected.

Features/Description
The Series 90-30 Ethernet Interface will support both SRTP and Modbus TCP simultaneously. The Module will respond to SRTP messages and to Modbus TCP messages. Four new COMMREQs are added for Modbus TCP.
1.Create a Modbus TCP connection using a Channel (Note: number of channels remains the same,   16. A channel is used for either SRTP or Modbus).
2.Modbus Read -Read Discretes or Words
3.Modbus Writes -Write a coil or Mutliple Words
4.Close a Modbus TCP connection

Modbus Conformance Codes 0 and 1 are supported, which is read or write single or multiple discetes or words which are contiguous. Conformance Code 2 is not supported, which is read or write multiple items which are scattered in memory.

The Create a Connection COMMREQ has a unit identifier field so that a serial Modbus address can be provided to allow communication to multidropped serial Modbus RTU networks, when connected thru a VMSE (Serial to Ethernet Adapter) or a Modbus Bridge.

Compatibility
A firmware update will be available to add Modbus TCP to IC693CMM321-FG, this is the version with the 10BaseT RJ45 port. IC693CMM321-EF and earlier can not be upgraded. The upgrade will go on GE Fanuc WEB site in the Technical Support section once it is available.

All 90-30 CPUs models are supported, version 6.50 firmware or higher is required

All Programmers support the Modbus TCP feature.

Ordering Information
All new orders for IC693CMM321 are automatically upgraded to the current verson. Orders placed after the version with Modbus TCP functionality (IC693CMM321-FH) is released, will ship with the Modbus TCP functionality.   Documentaion GFK-1541 is being updated to provide documention on the Modbus TCP services.
