Starting Off With a Bang: Our 2005 Customer Events
Cincinnati and Milwaukee Successes are Just the Beginning!
The "Outperform Your Competition" events are underway, and we're off to a great start! End users and Machine Tool Builders alike flocked to our Cincinnati and Milwaukee events in February.
Our CNC team will continue to host customer seminar events throughout the U.S. through September 2005. The events will include speakers from GE Fanuc as well as other industry suppliers and organizations, including FANUC Robotics, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, Modern Machine Shop and more. Topics include:
- How to Remain Globally Competitive with:
- Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
- Machine Availability, Performance and Quality
- Lean Manufacturing
- Six Sigma
- The Power of Productivity - Automation Technologies
- Advanced Manufacturing: "solutions in action" - Renishaw, Inc.
- Using Robots to Stay Competitive - FANUC Robotics
- OEE Enablers - Efficiency Solutions for Your Plant - GE Fanuc
- Quality Challenges in Today’s Automotive Industry
- Real Life Applications of Lean Manufacturing
- Solutions in Action - Success Stories

Charmilles Selects GE Fanuc CNCs for New EDM
Simple, Powerful Controls Increase Productivity with Higher Reliability and Easier Operation
Many powerful machines lose productivity on the shop floor due to a poor control system and an inadequate user interface. However, a new electro-erosion die sinking machine from Charmilles, featuring technology from GE Fanuc, is setting new standards for simple, yet powerful control. Charmilles Technologies SA is a world leader in Electrical Discharging Machining (EDM), with some 45,000 machines in service. The distinguishing feature of EDM compared with conventional machining processes such as reaming, milling or turning is that material is removed from a blank using electrical discharges. The machine works in tandem with a spark generator. This complex technology sets specific constraints on the CNC and the software used to manage all the machining configurations.

Beyond Poka-Yoke
Mistake Proofing In High-Mix Machining
Poka-yoke, or mistake proofing, has been widely adopted in high-volume, manual-assembly processes. With increasing global competition and a continued trend toward just-in-time (JIT) production, it is critically important to provide reliable deliveries of products with zero defects. Manufacturers are now being challenged by a demand for mass customization, and it is becoming more difficult to implement simple poka-yoke devices. Design for Six Sigma and automation are some of the best practices used to eliminate the possibility of mistakes, but CNC and CAD/CAM manufacturers can add value by building mistake-proofing capabilities into their technologies.

Taking the Series 30i CNC to the Next Level
Servo and Spindle HRV4 (High Response Vector v.4)
Machine tool builders and end users who demand the highest precision from their machines will see improvements in surface finish, cycle times and accuracy with GE Fanuc's new HRV4. Our state-of-the-art processors, high-resolution 16MM count pulse coders, resonance filters and DSP technology are driving servo technology to the next level.
Fanuc servo and spindle motor performance continues to increase and servo and spindle software must be capable of realizing these performance increases. With the Servo and Spindle HRV4, high-speed and high-precision machining is achieved by using an ultra-fast servo processor at the nanometer level of interpolation. These features are a logical progression in the development of exceptional servo systems.
