Introduction

Do you ever wish that you could put your serial PLCs and Operator Interfaces on Ethernet?  Got old PLC's installed that you're communicating to via serial cables when you've got Ethernet installed everywhere?  Tired of walking out to the plant floor with a programming unit to connect up to a PLC serially to change or monitor a program?  No matter what brand PLC or Operator Interface you are using, GE Fanuc's VersaMaxTM SE (Serial-Ethernet converter) is just what you need to take advantage of the Ethernet network you have installed in your plant.

Product Summary

GE Fanuc Automation's VersaMax SE (IC200SET001) is a versatile, cost-effective programmable logic controller accessory that enables Ethernet connection via the serial port on the controller. The new VersaMax SE complements the VersaMax Nano and VersaMax Micro controllers, as well as any other GE Fanuc PLC that has a serial interface. The VersaMax SE allows users to solicit and send information, upload/download programs, and monitor and control devices over Ethernet.

The VersaMax SE (IC200SET001) is packaged with a pre-made four inch RJ-45 to RJ-45 cable, that goes from the VersaMax Micro or Nano to the VersaMax SE, manual and utility disk. As with the VersaMax Micro and Nano controllers, the VersaMax SE accessory features the convenience of DIN rail mounting, allowing users to install the product onto a DIN rail rack and attach the serial interface of the device to the VersaMax SE.

The VersaMax SE includes screw terminal blocks that support RS-232 or RS-485 serial interfaces or an RJ45 connector supporting the RS-232 standard for serial device attachment. Serial speeds of up to 38.4 Kbps are supported along with DSR and DTR modem controls. In terms of networking, the VersaMax SE supports an RJ45 10BASE-T interface at 10 Mb that allows convenient Ethernet network access.

Once connected to the network, the VersaMax SE allows users to choose from a wide range of IP protocols. The VersaMax SE is pre-configured with SNP (Series Ninety Protocol) on the serial side and SRTP (GE Fanuc Ethernet) on the Ethernet side with limited Ethernet Global Data (EGD) support. Additional IP protocols supported are Modbus Ethernet, UDP, TCP, and Telnet and on the serial side Modbus RTU and ASCII.

The multi-protocol options of the VersaMax SE provide customizable support for PLCs, printers, bar code readers, variable frequency drives, solid-state starters, or other ASCII devices that require Ethernet connection.

Additionally, the VersaMax SE provides a wealth of management options for controlling attached serial devices. It can be managed via Telnet or SNMP over the network and configured or managed via its serial port. It also contains Flash ROM that allows new or customized versions of operating code to be easily downloaded from the TCP/IP host (TFTP download) or via the serial port.
