The NEXT STEP Program enables you to upgrade to Series 90 performance and
compatibility with new technologies at substantial savings. Two major new
components of the Program that help make it a compelling and cost-effective
solution is the new S6-PIO Module and an upgraded software conversion tool. The
new software tool lets GE Fanuc’s Engineering Team convert older GE Fanuc PLC
ladder logic to new Series 90 ladder logic in a fraction of the time it would
take to re-write the application code. This new tool enables us to convert
approximately 95% of the existing code - a substantial improvement over the 70%
conversion rate of previous conversion tools. The S6PIO hardware allows the
connection between older Series 6 PLC I/O and the newer 9070 PLC’s. In
addition, this new S6PIO allows the replacement of redundant (RPU) S6 CPU
systems. A new feature known as "Passive Mode Operation" allows GE
Fanuc’s Engineering Team to install a 9070 CPU into the S6 parallel I/O bus
without interfering with the S6 control. This also allows for complete check out
of the converted code "prior to" switching the control over to the new
system, which results in less risk to our customer’s application.
