The Tekkru Media Group (TMG) was established to help meet the demand for increased youth involvement in all areas of politics and technology.  Youth have great opinions on current affairs and great ideas when it comes to the implementation of technology in their communities.  The TMG's goal is to mobilize the youth to get involved, by building their capacity to use ICT and "new media" and their ability to translate high-level speeches and initiatives into a context that all youth will find interesting and applicable to their own lives.

Eight First Nations youth from all over BC were invited to come to Vancouver and spend 3 days learning about new media and communiations with Denise Williams the SchoolNet Youth Coordinator.

A jam packed schedule included an intensive photography class hosted by Matt Layzell, a video class to spark our ideas by John Kerr and a whole morning of learning about the blogosphere with Rebecca Bollwitt and eventually setting up our own Tekkru Media blog!  www.tekkru.wordpress.com

After the Training Camp we started working at our first gig!  The TMG put their new skills to work at the 14th Annual FNESC Provincial Conference on November 28th and 29th, 2008.  The group attended workshops, took pictures, met delegates and covered important speeches by Ministers and other dignitaries that graced the conference schedule.

In the end, the youth of Tekkru Media gained invaluable expereince in participating at a conference in a professional capacity.  The group is now ready for the next challenge as we work toward building our reputation as the ABORIGINAL YOUTH BEAT.
