SchoolNet's Plan

With a 50% cut in funding over the last 4 years, First Nations SchoolNet will be repositioning the program to ensure we utilize the funding we do have to properly and efficiently serve First Nations schools. Please take note of the changes in services we are able to provide.

First Nations SchoolNet Survey
An INAC Headquarters Lead Survey to Guage SchoolNet's Successes and Challenges

Our funders, Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, are currenlty underway with an evaluation process of the SchoolNet program. An outside First Nations agency, Donna Cona INC. has been contracted to conduct the evaluation in which results will be released in February 2009.  Surveys will only be accepted to January 9th, 2009.  There is a digital camera up for grabs if you get your survey in by the January 9th cut off!

Youth Information Technology Program
Recognition Well Deserved!

This year, the Youth Information Technology Program (Y-IT) hosted its very first kick-off conference on August 11 and 12, 2008 at the Marriott in Richmond, BC.  The youth had the opportunity to meet one another, learn about their new laptops and meet their online instructor.  The group was also hosted for an all day event at the Vancouver Olympic Committiee office in Vancouver, Lotsa cool technology over there!

The Launch of an Aboriginal Youth Media Group

The SchoolNet youth program has expanded to include an Aboriginal youth media group called TEKKRU Media. Their focus is on using new media to reach First Nations youth around BC in an effort to increase youth participation and dialogue in politics, education, culture and technology.  If you have questions about this group or would like to invite us to attend your event please email tekkru@fnesc.ca or call Denise Williams, Youth Coordinator at 604-925-6087
