Time is short to determine the best course to upgrade your institution’s Microsoft server licenses and desktop software under the Open and Select license agreements. You can cover upgrades to existing licenses through July 31, 2002, by purchasing Upgrade Advantage for those licenses. As of August 1, 2002, the only way to upgrade Microsoft licenses (not already covered by Software Assurance) will be to purchase a new full license with Software Assurance. In general, if you plan to upgrade your server licenses within four years or to upgrade desktop software within 3.5 years, you should strongly consider purchasing the Upgrade Advantage coverage before August 1.
