Microsoft Campus Agreement 3.1 Coming July 1, 2002
Includes Restored Work-at-Home Rights
Microsoft recently announced the release of Campus Agreement
3.1 on July 1, 2002. The new optional
features: (1) server products will be available for subscription under the
Campus Agreement transactional license, (2) in addition to the standard one-year
term, a three-year subscription option will be available, and (3) Microsoft
decision-makers have heard your feedback after reducing the products available
for faculty/staff work-at-home use under version 3.0—they have restored those
rights (returning products such as FrontPage, Visual Studio, and upgrades to
the Windows operating system). The
restoration of the work-at-home rights to these products will require the lead
entity of the Campus Agreement to submit a special order form to Microsoft—FCCC
will update its FAQs and the Microsoft media order forms as those forms are
submitted. For additional information

Timely Keys to Your Institution’s Microsoft Licensing Strategy
Upgrade Advantage and Software Assurance Changes July 31, 2002
This article will help you determine the best course to
upgrade your institution’s Microsoft server licenses and other desktop software
under the Open and Select license agreements.
You can cover upgrades to existing licenses through July 31, 2002, by
enrolling by purchasing Upgrade Advantage for those
licenses. As of August 1, 2002, the
only way to upgrade Microsoft licenses (not already covered by Software
Assurance) will be to purchase a new full license with Software Assurance. In general, if you plan to upgrade your server licenses within
four years or to upgrade other desktop software within 3.5 years, you should
strongly consider purchasing the Upgrade Advantage coverage before August 1.
