---

SECOND ROUND R.F.P. RELEASED

The second round Request for Proposals (R.F.P.) was released on October 15, 2003 and is available at www.foundationccc.org/echsrfp2.asp. The goal is to award grants to up to 13 California community colleges that present outstanding proposals for Early College High Schools.

The second round R.F.P. is similar to the first round R.F.P. in the information required, but questions have been clarified and formatting simplified.

All 108 California community colleges are eligible to apply.  A college that receives a second round grant may open its Early College High School in the fall of 2004 or 2005.  Proposals are due by 5 p.m., March 31, 2004.

APPLICANT SUPPORT ACTIVITIES

F.C.C.C. staff will be conducting a variety of activities to assist colleges who plan to apply for a second round Implementation Grant:

  • Five Applicant Workshops and Weekly Proposal Assistance Conference Calls.
  • Presentations in response to invitations from a variety of groups and organizations.  The most recent presentation was to the Business in Education Symposium in Alameda and the next will be at the California League of High Schools Annual Conference in Monterey on Nov. 22.
  • Bob Nolan, Jeff Tschudi, and Joyce Arntson of F.C.C.C. are available to respond to individual requests for assistance (see below).

In addition, F.C.C.C. staff is preparing the first of a series of “Briefing Papers” for use by applicants, grantees, and practicing Early College High Schools.  The first paper will be on “Concurrent Enrollment," ready for distribution by the first week of January, 2004.

Updates to Applicant Support Activities will be disseminated through the newsletter and posted at www.foundationccc.org/echsrfp2.asp

PLANNING GRANT AWARDS

Colleges who applied for, but did not receive a first round Implementation Grant, were invited to apply for a Planning Grant (up to $10,000) to prepare a second round Implementation Grant Application.  Seven Planning Grants were awarded.
