NEWS RELEASE
Teddy Roosevelt Comes to Sacramento! New exhibit Celebrates Centennial of T.R.'s visit to California
A new exhibit in the State Capitol, "T.R. in the Golden State: Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Teddy Roosevelt's 1903 Western Tour," is expected to generate great interest and draw crowds.
Displayed on first floor near the Historic Governor's Office, the exhibit features menus, ribbons, badges, buttons, and photographs, highlighting President Roosevelt's first visit to California. As part of the festivities, "President Roosevelt" will provide a keynote address at the Opening Reception on May 15 - 5:30 p.m.
Teddy Roosevelt toured the U.S. on a marathon 66-day excursion from April 1 through June 5, covering 14,000 miles through 25 states and territories visiting nearly 150 cities and towns by train, horse-drawn carriage, stagecoach, and steamship. He delivered nearly 200 speeches and gave five major addresses. Roosevelt spent nearly two weeks - May 7-20, 1903 - seeing many of California's cities, meeting its people, and extolling the state's natural beauty. The exhibit captures the spirit of "Teddy" through Adam Gottlieb's personal collection of political memorabilia, vintage photographs, and historical artifacts.
