September 14, 2001 marked the Centennial of Theodore Roosevelt's inauguration as our nation's 26th President.  On that day just over 100 years ago, the youngest man ever to be come president took the oath of office in the library of the Ansley Wilcox House, in Buffalo New York, now the TR inaugural historic site.  Delayed by the events of 9/11 a symposium is planned for October 17- 20, 2002, "The Big Stick and the Square Deal: The Presidency of Theodore Roosevelt", to be discussed by 16 nationally renowned historians.

The New England Chapter Annual Meeting this year will be merged with this event in Buffalo.  I hope that many of you will be able to attend. For details including a list of historians, click on the following link Annual Meeting 2002.  A highlight of this years meeting will be awarding of the "Theodore Roosevelt Distinguished Service Medal" to the crew of the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) and accepted by Captain Richard J. O'Hanlon USN.  Click on USS TR  for more  information regarding the accomplisments of the carrier during their recent deployment.

Theodore Roosevelt had a life long love of the Navy and ships.  See historian Ed Renahan's discussion by clicking on the side bar, TR and the Navy.
