"TR: An American Lion," a new four-hour documentary special will be seen on the History Channel on TUESDAY, JANUARY 21, 2003 and WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 22, 2003. The film, produced by Greystone and directed by David DeVries, features interviews and commentary by such noted historians and TR experts as Edmund Morris, H.W. Brands, Douglas Brinkley, James MacGregor Burns, John Milton Cooper, Susan Dunn, and John Allen Gable as well as interviews with members of the Roosevelt family, including Edith Derby Williams, Nancy Roosevelt Jackson, Tweed Roosevelt, and Theodore Roosevelt, IV. The narrator is Edward Hermann, the noted actor , and Richard Dreyfus, the famous screen star, does the voice of Theodore Roosevelt.
Historic film footage - including scenes never before used in any documentary (such as some rare shots of First Lady Edith Roosevelt) - and historic photographs are used in conjunction with reenacted scenes from TR's life in History Channel's American Lion.
The five TR reenactors include Jonathan Roosevelt, Jr., who is a great great grandson of Theodore Roosevelt, and James Foote, an impersonator of TR who has appeared all over the country in recent years. A special preview of the program was shown in Buffalo, NY at the conference on TR in October. Scenes were shot in the Badlands of North Dakota, at the NY State Capitol in Albany, TR Birthplace in New York City, Sagamore Hill in Oyster Bay, NY, and elsewhere.
