“Summer to Remember” Campaign: Web 2.0 Fundraising Success on Karma411
What does a successful Web 2.0 campaign look like?
www.karma411.com
by Karma411

Who doesn’t remember the fun of summer camp when the school year is out? It’s that time of year again and a whole group of new kids are getting ready for summer fun at camp. Of course there are many kids who can’t afford to go to summer camp and that’s when nonprofits step in. Family and Children’s Association is a nonprofit on Long Island with a simple goal: “To protect and strengthen children, individuals, families and communities.” They are running a campaign called “Summer to Remember” which helps pay the cost for 7 weeks of summer camp.

Family and Children’s Association has been running their summer camp since 1968. They raise money through a number of means to help disadvantaged kids: local business donations, through the Newsday Charities Kids Campaign, and online options on their web site. This year they decided to open a new channel: a Web 2.0 campaign on Karma411. They created a campaign on the site to talk about their camp and ask friends and colleagues to support the campaign. They set a realistic goal of $1,000 for June and are already at $710 dollars with a week to go in the campaign. Check out the campaign and see how it works.

What does a successful Web 2.0 campaign look like?

  • Anyone can create it – from a development director to a mother of a child who has benefited from the program
  • They are viral – people can invite their friends and spread the word
  • They start a conversation with donors – you can share your stories (called Klogs or Karma Blogs) to show the donors how you are using their funds
  • Provide instant credit card transaction functionality for your cause – don’t have it on your own site? Just create a campaign on Karma411 and you can start taking in donations to support your activities
  • Nonprofits have admin tools for tracking the donations and sending thank you notes to donors

To learn how you can run a successful Web 2.0 campaign on Karma411 please visit www.karma411.com or write the cofounder at john.murcott@karma411.com.

Survey Shows Economy Starting To Impact Non-Profit Fundraising Auctions
Harder To Get Items, Sponsors Demanding More, Lower Bids

by cMarket

cMarket, the leader in online auction fundraising, announced the results of an economic impact survey completed by 250 charity auction managers across the United States who ran auctions between January and April of 2008.  Results of the survey indicated that while still in the early stages of the economic slowdown, 22% of respondents stated that they saw a decline in funds raised this spring compared to last year and nearly all are bracing themselves for an even tougher non-profit fundraising environment over the months to come.  Overall, auction administrators are finding it harder to get items, bidders are pulling back, a significant number are reporting attendance down at their galas, and corporate sponsors and commercial item donors are demanding more tangible marketing benefits in return for their underwriting.
