More Women Than Men Go Online
New Pew Internet and American Life Project Report
http://www.pewinternet.org/pdfs/PIP_Wome...
by Deborah Fallows

Men still tend to be first in trying new technologies, but women are catching up in overall use of new things, according to a new report from the Pew Internet and American Life Project. The study found changes in how men and women use the Internet.

The percentage of women using the Internet still lags slightly behind the percentage of men, 66 percent to 68 percent. Because there are more women than men in society, there are slightly more women online.
Women under 30 and black women outpace their male peers.

However, older women trail dramatically behind older men, according to Pew.
The study also found that 86 of women ages 18-29 are online, compared with 80 of men that age. But that trend doesn't hold for all age groups. Thirty-four percent of men age 65 and older are online, compared with 21 percent of women that Sixty percent of black women are online, compared with 50 percent of black men.

Research fellow Deborah Fallows said that men use the Internet for the breadth of experience, and women use it for human connections.
Both like to save time on tasks such as buying tickets or paying bills, and see it as source of information.
