The Cesar and Ilusion Millan Foundation, which supports the rescue, rehabilitation, and placement of abused and abandoned dogs, has found that pennies do add up.
The Foundation recently learned about the socially responsible search engine GoodSearch.com, which donates 50% of its revenue to the charities its users designate. It was discovered by one of Millan’s employees, who registered the organization. The Foundation then included a link to GoodSearch in their Valentine's Day E-Newsletter Special Announcement about the formation of the Millan Foundation, which you can see here: http://www.cesarmillaninc.com/newsletter/foundation.html.
Immediately, supporters of the Foundation began to use GoodSearch on its behalf, and the organization jumped from earning $0.26 in January to $410 in February. To further encourage their supporters to use the search engine, they put a link in the “Donations” section of their website, which you can see at http://www.millanfoundation.org/donations.html. They also included a column ad in their March newsletter, which can be seen at http://www.cesarmillaninc.com/newsletter/200703.html. The earnings jumped to $540 for that month.
The relationship with GoodSearch has also helped increase awareness of the relatively new non-profit organization. The search engine featured the Cesar and Ilusion Millan Foundation as the Charity of the Day on their homepage, which led to more than 6 times the average amount of visitors to the Foundation website on that day. And, GoodSearch secured an interview with Stacey Candella, the head of the Foundation, on a Sirius Satellite Radio program to get the word out about the Foundation’s mission.
To date, the Cesar and Ilusion Millan Foundation has earned nearly $1900 in 3.5 months from this initiative, with minimal effort on the Foundation’s or its supporters’ part. This has not cost the organization or the supporters a dime, as the money has come from the GoodSearch advertisers. Furthermore, the Foundation appreciates that the search engine provides a way for its supporters to feel connected to the organization every day -- which has ripple effects into donations and volunteerism.
