2006 International ePhilanthropy Award WINNERS Announced!
www.ephilanthropy.org/awards
And the winners are...
Best Integrated Online and Offline ePhilanthropy Campaign (presented by GetActive Software): Greenpeace International
The “No Whaling Virtual March” was a global scale campaign, led by Greenpeace International that innovatively mobilized more than sixty-one thousand (61,000) people from one-hundred and fifty-two (152) countries in thirty-three (33) days. The objective of the campaign was to protest against the South Korean government’s intention to re-open commercial whaling. The international pressure was successful and the South Korean government did not resume commercial whaling. Every activist had the opportunity to be in South Korea no matter where they lived. This Virtual March created an online and offline community that came together around the same ethical cause.
Receiving 2006 Honorable Mention:
- Giving Exchange, GreaterGood South Africa Trust - Global Impact - The Kent School
Best Online Donations/Fundraising Campaign (presented by eTapestry): Network for Good
Nominated by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the Network for Good is the Internet's leading charitable resource. Through their e-philanthropy site, individuals can donate, volunteer and get involved with the issues they care about. In response to the challenge presented by the 2005 holiday season, Network for Good launched a coordinated, ambitious online fundraising campaign to re-energize donors and compel them to “do good, feel good.” The result: Network for Good topped the four million ($4 million) goal halfway into the campaign and ultimately generated over seven million ($7 million) in donations for over eight thousand different charities in just five weeks, a record for the organization. Six percent of donors were enrolled in monthly recurring giving, meaning Network for Good continued to experience the success of the holiday campaign with monthly gifts in the new year.
Receiving 2006 Honorable Mention:
- American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) - GreaterGood South Africa - Modest Needs - South African Social Investment Exchange - Wikimedia Foundation, Inc.
Best Special Event Registration and/or Membership Campaign (presented by Artez Interactive): Kids Help Phone
Nominated by Artez Interactive, Kids Help Phone is Canada's only toll-free, 24-hour, bilingual and anonymous phone counseling, referral and information service for children and youth. The Bell Walk is a national pledge-driven fundraising event that utilizes the internet for the majority of its communication and outreach. The website is the central hub for all participants and donors, posting staff blogs and sending email marketing blasts to past participants and donors. In 2006, the number of registrants that came in online went up from thirty-eight percent (38%) in 2005 to a major increase of fifty percent (50%) in 2006. This successful campaign saw a dramatic increase in online dollars raised – in 2005 online donations totaled over six-hundred and seventy-five thousand dollars ($675,945). In 2006, this jumped an incredible seventy-three percent (73%) to over a million dollars.
Receiving 2006 Honorable Mention:
- The Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta
Best Community Building/ Volunteerism and/or Activism Campaign (presented by FundraisingINFO.com): volunteerXchange.com
Volunteer x Change is the world's first virtual volunteer system that delivers valuable professional services, skills and advice to the Community Sector via the web, 24 x 7, anywhere in the world. Volunteers get the flexibility and convenience of volunteering at their computer by using their professional skills to help solve the challenges that community organizations face. Volunteers also receive feedback on contributions and audited reports that can be used as a record of their added experience and professional development. This project unlocks much of the value of professionals that sit behind a desk, that want to contribute, but can never find the time because they are ‘chained to their desk’ or have very busy lives.
Receiving 2006 Honorable Mention:
- American Cancer Society - Do It Day, Greater Good South Africa - Help Argentina - New York Cares - Polly Klaas Foundation
Global People's Choice Award (presented by the Verizon Foundation): African Well Fund
The African Well Fund (AWF) raises funds for the construction and maintenance of clean water wells in Africa. They are an outstanding example of a non-profit that has successfully used online fundraising to make a difference in the lives of others. www.africanwellfund.org is the URL for their main page.
One of the AWF's most successful fundraising efforts has been its yearly "Build a Well for Bono's Birthday" campaign (or “BBW” - "Bono's Birthday Well").
Bono is the singer in the music group U2. While not directly affiliated with U2 or their management, the AWF has the advantage of being able to appeal directly to U2 fans for help, since addressing Africa's poverty emergency has long been one of Bono's most publicized endeavors (the AWF was actually born out of Bono's efforts).
Receiving 2006 Honorable Mention:
- Greater Good South Africa Trust - The Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta - Modest Needs - New York Cares
