A new giving site allows donors in the United Kingdom to make online contributions to a charity of their choice.
GiveNow.org is a joint project of the Charities Aid Foundation, a nonprofit organization in Kent, England, the AOL Time Warner Foundation, in New York; and AOL UK, in London.
Charities are encouraged to log on and create a listing, provide their mission statement and other information to tell donors about their organisation. They will also be provided with tools that allow the posting of news reports to communicate to donors and thereby increase the chances of gaining online support.
The first £2 million (or $3.2-million) to be donated through GiveNow.org will be entirely free to both the charity and the donor thanks to funding from AOL Time Warner Foundation.
In addition, CAF will be reclaiming tax on all donations made by UK taxpayers through the portal. Simply by selecting the ‘Gift Aid’ option when making a gift, donors can boost the value of their donation by 28%, at no extra cost.
