While widely applied and growing in prevalence in Europe, here in North America, multiturn absolutes have been slower to come on the scene. However, with recent advances in control and communication technologies, their usage in North America is becoming more common. EPC is proud to offer a product that meets this growing need.
EPC's MA36 features an innovative magnetic-based energy harvesting technology that provides the turns counting storage without expensive and bulky gears or costly and unreliable batteries. With each shaft rotation it generates a burst of energy that's more than ample enough to power the encoder, even with no external power source. The turns counts are stored and updated in a Ferrous Random Access Memory (FRAM) that has nearly unlimited storage capacity. Single turn resolution is up to 14 bits and multiturn resolution is 40 bits. Our innovative energy harvesting technology has a very small component footprint, and allows for a compact encoder package.

| Instead of optical sensing, the MA36 uses a robust and accurate hall-effect sensor to generate the encoder signal. An integral Faraday cage and other board level design features are used to ensure the MA36 is unaffected by electromagnetic fields commonly found in industrial applications. Some of these applications are within harsh, dirty environments making the IP67 sealing a welcome standard feature.
Available communication protocols are CANopen and SSI, both widely applied in industrial applications. This advanced technology allows communication without the need for a host computer. A bi-color LED status indicator permits easy configuration and troubleshooting. The encoders are also available in single turn version, Model SA36S and Model SA36H.
