Hyundai Introduces Its Intelligent Personal Voice Agent
Automaker collaborates with SoundHound Inc. to coin new voice-control technology

Hyundai fans can testify to the brand’s emphasis on providing vehicles with the latest technology. The Korean automaker continues to expand its focus on cutting-edge intelligence with its newest project with SoundHound.

The two companies are currently tweaking the design of a voice-activated virtual assistant technology that Hyundai has dubbed “Intelligent Personal Agent.” A demo of the project was revealed at a press conference at CES 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada in January. Fans of the brand can plan on seeing this feature incorporated on 2019 models.

Likes its name implies, Intelligent Personal Agent provides functional assistance to drivers. To activate it, you simply have to say, “Hi, Hyundai.” It allows you to send texts, make calls, schedule appointments and check traffic info with just your voice, allowing you to keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road. You can also use it to turn in-car features on and off, such as the air conditioning or radio.

Use Intelligent Personal Agent to initiate basic tasks at home when you’re on the road. For instance, you can employ voice commands to adjust electronic devices such as smart thermostats from the convenience of your car.

Paul Choo, director of Infotainment Development Group at Hyundai Motor Company, indicated that this feature will help usher in a new wave of progressive technology to suit those who desire avant-garde technology in their vehicle. “Sophisticated voice recognition and AI integration are core to effectively providing drivers with the massive content and data that future connected vehicles have to offer,” he said.

SoundHound is a worthy company for Hyundai to forge this new technology with. As Keyvan Mohajer, founder & CEO of SoundHound, stated, “We spent a decade developing Houndify, the most advanced voice AI platform, to enable partners the ability to create customized experiences for their products. We are thrilled to work with Hyundai Motor to revolutionize the in-car experience.” 

Intelligent Personal Assistant promises to be upgrade the driving experience for Hyundai owners, starting in 2019 when it becomes available for purchase as an add-on.
