Mix Up Your Snack Time!
Trail mix is a delicious and nutritious snack that’s perfect for anytime!

Looking for a snack that’s good on the go? Whether you’re driving the kids to baseball practice or just relaxing at home, this snack really satisfies. The best part is that you can make it right in your own kitchen!

Trail mix is an excellent source of protein and carbohydrates – the stuff that keeps you energized and full. Just be sure to use portion control because the fat content can be high due to the nuts and chocolate.

The best part about making trail mix is that you can add your favorite fruits, candies and nuts, as well as raisins, mini pretzels, cereal and granola. The rule of thumb is to add around one-quarter cup of your favorite ingredients and mix them together. Just play around and see what you can create!

Here are some delicious trail mix recipes for you to try. While basic trail mix needs no cooking, there are also two recipes that require a little cooking time and are totally worth it!

The Basic

What you need

1 cup Cheerios cereal

½ cup of raisins

½ cup of dry-roasted peanuts

½ cup of banana chips

½ cup of M&Ms

Get cooking!

Mix together all the ingredients and place into Ziploc bags.

The Ultimate Trail Mix

What you need

1 cup of pretzels

1 cup of raisins

1 cup of M&Ms

1 cup of dry-roasted peanuts

½ cup of chocolate chips

½ cup of peanut butter chips

½ cup of Skittles

Get cooking!

Mix together all the ingredients and place into Ziploc bags.

Spicy Cajun Trail Mix

What you need

½ cup of pecan halves

½ cup of walnut halves

½ cup of whole raw almonds

½ cup of unsalted shelled pumpkin seeds

½ cup of unsalted shelled sunflower seeds

¼ teaspoon of garlic powder

¼ teaspoon of ground cumin

¼ teaspoon of salt

¼ teaspoon of chili powder

2 pinches of cayenne pepper

Get cooking!

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and toss well. Spread the mixture on a baking sheet and bake for about 15 minutes, shaking it every few minutes. Let the trail mix cool and store in an airtight container.

Peanut Butter Granola Bars

What you need

½ cup of natural peanut butter

½ cup of light brown sugar

½ cup of old-fashioned oats

½ cup of dried cranberries

½ cup of sliced almonds

1 large egg white

½ teaspoon of salt

3 tablespoons of vegetable oil

½ teaspoon of ground cinnamon

11 tablespoons of water

Get cooking!

Preheat your oven to 300 degrees and line an eight-inch baking pan with parchment paper. Make sure to leave a two-inch overhang at the two opposite ends. Combine oats, almonds and cranberries in a large bowl.

Whisk together the brown sugar, peanut butter, oil, salt, cinnamon and 11 tablespoons of water. Put mixture in the oven on low heat until the sugar is dissolved. Let it cool slightly while you whisk the egg white. Pour the egg white over the mixture and stir until it’s mixed together. Spread it evenly in the pan and smooth the top.

Bake for 30 minutes and let cool for 10 minutes. Remove from pan using the paper as handles. Cool completely and cut into bars.

Enjoy!
