Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township

The Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township (MSDLT) in Indiana has a reputation for high achievement which is one of the reasons they are currently using Skyward’s software. MSDLT is the 6th largest district in Indiana and has an enrollment of 16,138 students with a mission to empower all students and to help them be life-long learners in a competitive global community.

Located in the northeast corner of Marion County, near downtown Indianapolis, Indiana, Lawrence is a residential suburban community and has families with widely-diverse social, cultural and economic backgrounds.  Residents have a short commute to many recreational, social and sporting events in downtown Indianapolis along with a variety of unique shopping, dining, and entertainment options.

In 2000, a team of MSDLT staff members researched several student management software packages, and found that Skyward fit like a glove.  When it was time to implement the new software, Susan Flagin of Student Data Services at MSDLT was very impressed.  “Transition to a new software package takes time to adjust to the change but our users found the Student package very easy to use.  Skyward provided us with in depth training for our staff in all modules purchased.  When we went live, Skyward trainers were onsite for the first few days to assist with any questions or issues we had,” said Flagin.

MSDLT has been a Skyward customer since the 2001-02 school year and is currently using Skyward’s Student software package including Secondary Gradebook and Family/Student Access.  They started using Application Service Provider (ASP) services from ISCorp out of Mequon, Wisconsin in December of 2006 and are currently one of the largest districts using ISCorp.

“Skyward’s support staff is very knowledgeable and friendly.  Whenever we have an issue or concern, they work with us until it is resolved,” added Flagin.

Currently MSDLT has 22 school facilities including 2 high schools (Lawrence North High School and Lawrence Central High School), 1 career center (McKenzie Career Center), 3 middle schools (Belzer, Craig, and Fall Creek Valley Middle Schools), 11 elementary schools (Amy Beverland, Brook Park, Crestview, Forest Glen, Harrison Hill, Indian Creek, Mary Castle, Oaklandon, Skiles Test, Sunnyside, and Winding Ridge Elementary Schools), 4 learning sites, and 1 alternative school (KIND School Learning Program).

Not only do their standardized test scores exceed state and national averages year after year, their athletics are top notch as well.  MSDLT’s boy’s basketball team tied the state record with three state championship titles while also breaking the state record for all time wins with 50.  The district high schools boast over an 80% graduation rate and its students are consistently admitted to the nation’s most prestigious colleges and universities.  They are recognized as a “lighthouse” district based on their award-winning staff, high-achieving students, supportive community, and their innovative educational programs.

Today, MSD of Lawrence Township continues to thrive as one of the premier schools in Indiana due to their staff, students, and community.  Thanks in part to Skyward’s software; MSDLT is able to provide a great education from kindergarten to graduation.  For more information on MSDLT, please contact their website at www.ltschools.org.
