Texterity Provides E-Content Conversion and Validation Services for Baker & Taylor
Enables Publishers to Load Content Into ED, Baker & Taylor's eContent Delivery and Management Solution

SOUTHBOROUGH, MA, March 14, 2002 — Texterity, Inc., a leading provider of electronic publishing services, today announced that it is providing conversion and validation services for Baker & Taylor's ED™ system. The services are available to publishers participating in ED™, Baker & Taylor's eContent delivery and management solution. ED™ provides public and academic libraries with a turnkey solution for delivering eBooks and related services to their patrons, and will be available in 2002.

Texterity is providing the ED™ services to publishers and conversion service providers who are partnering with Baker & Taylor/Informata to provide electronic content for the ED™ E-Content Delivery System. The services include web-based, automated validation that checks for ED™ and Open eBook (OEB) compliance. By ensuring that files will successfully load into and be fully functional in the ED™ system, publishers are guaranteed that their content will provide a superior user experience. Once files pass the validation test, they are automatically loaded into the ED™ system. Texterity also provides its TextCafe services for publishers who require ED-compliant OEB files and transformation of PDF Normal files into Adobe eBook files.

"Baker & Taylor is working with Texterity to provide an easy path for publishers to ensure the quality of their content for the ED system," said Evelyn Fazio, Vice President of Electronic Content Acquisition. "We provide publishers with a 'self-service' option, which allows them to submit files, get immediate feedback, and get titles loaded into the system, as well as providing them with a 'full-service' option where Texterity can assist with conversion."

"We're pleased to provide Baker & Taylor with the 'front door' to the ED system," said Martin Hensel, President of Texterity. "By providing publishers with a solution that clearly defines content quality - and provides feedback - we make the entire process easier for publishers. We also can assist publishers in converting existing PDF, XML, or non-compliant OEB files into a high-quality ED OEB that will provide a great user experience."

Texterity offers TextCafe, the largest e-book conversion and logistics service today, and is expanding into additional markets including financial publishing and wireless information delivery. Texterity recently introduced the E-Galley service, which enables publishers to distribute pre-production books to reviewers, bookstores, libraries, and other customers and partners. E-Galley uses eBooks to distribute large volumes of "advance reader" copies, expanding the preview audience at a considerably lower cost than traditional print methods.
