One of the greatest challenges facing the National Fragile X Foundation can be described in four simple words—“little staff, big place.”

For 21 years, the National Fragile X Foundation has been the place people turn to for information, but it doesn’t wait for inquiries; it is constantly working to educate medical and academic professionals, as well as families and communities, about the disorder.

With seven employees that together have a full-time equivalent of four and a half, the National Fragile X Foundation needs to make the most of its resources. To help, it started using online giving services that are integrated with its donor management system in June 2005. Its previous online efforts were limited to a donation page that was not secure and could not process credit cards. Today it has secure online pages for donations, memberships, and tributes and memorials.

The National Fragile X Foundation also is finding success by expanding its events and other fundraising campaigns online through the use of personal donation pages. Many of these personal pages are being created by supporters who would usually run a bake sale or a lemonade stand; others are using them to turn something they already do, such as a special birthday, into an awareness and fundraising event.
