Macrovision Attacks!

DVD copy protection software has become a bit of a running joke within the online community. It is a rare event that a DVD title is not available online for download - regardless of the associated copy protection. A key reason DVD piracy continues to run rampant is because CSS (Content Scrambling System) is still the protection standard... ...But Macrovision has a plan... [it] has developed two DVD copy protection technologies, RipGuard DVD and ACP (Analog Content Protection.)...

Morpheus: LimeWire is a Leech

Limewire has seen a recent surge in popularity, both by word of mouth and in the media. However not everyone is a fan. Michael Weiss recently had some very interesting comments about Limewire. "I think that LimeWire is one of the biggest P2P leeches in our industry. Not only have they left it to Morpheus to fight the biggest legal battle ever and foot the bill ($4 million and counting) by ourselves... they removed their bundles to take advantage of our situation thinking we could not afford to do so in their attempt to gain more users when we were vulnerable fighting on the front..."

There isn't even a fleshed out network protocol. The 'experiments' they've done are simulations..."

Sponsored Gnutella Search Results

A new service called Gnutelligence aims to do to the gnutella network what Google's Adsense did for website publishers. Except in this case, Gnutelligence would be the only publisher. Basically they claim that they will return "relevant sponsored search results" based on a gnutella query...

Detecting and Fighting Phishers

Here's another wonderful, fraudulent, phishing email I just received. The scary thing is that, according to the Houston Chronicle, about 5% of adults receiving a phishing email provided some sort of personal information to the phisher. Want to fight back? We'll break this phishing scheme down, show you how to trace back a phishing email, and -- in some cases -- alert the parties who, wittingly or unwittingly, provide phishing infrastructure...
