The 2017 Ram 3500 is built for hard work using a combination of powerful engine options and durability-focused underpinnings.
The Ram 3500 comes with a choice of three engines for 2017. The first is a 5.7-liter HEMI® V8, which produces 383 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. Second is a heavy-duty, 6.4-liter HEMI® V8 engine that uses a special automatic transmission controller for better coordination, producing a best-in-class 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque.
At the top of the engine range for the toughest jobs sits what Ram calls the “Proven and Legendary” 6.7-liter Cummins® Turbo Diesel I6 engine. When paired with an AISIN six-speed automatic transmission, it produces 385 horsepower and a massive 900 lb-ft of torque. This power gives the 2017 Ram 3500 a maximum towing capacity of 31,210 pounds.
Built for work
The Ram 3500 is primarily designed to be a hauling workhorse, and so its suspension contains some advances specifically made for that purpose.
One of these advances is the Ram 3500’s three-link front suspension, which is used in both two- and four-wheel drive models. This suspension uses a wider frame than the previous model, with a larger stabilizer bar that pushes the truck’s springs toward the outside. Combined with stronger shocks, this configuration provides a comfortable ride, particularly when hauling heavy loads.
You can complement that front suspension with a class-exclusive rear Auro-Level Air Suspension, which allows you to adjust the ride height between Normal and Alternate modes for better trailer alignment and to keep a level load, all accomplished in near-silence.
Command center comfort
The Ram 3500 is built for work but still offers customers superior comfort. This is especially true of its top two trim levels, the Laramie Longhorn® and the Limited.
Both models offer heated seats throughout the cabin, a power driver’s seat with a memory system, leather upholstery and ventilated front seats. However, the Laramie Longhorn® goes a step beyond by giving the leather seats filigree accents and natural wood accents throughout. The Limited includes dark gray leather seats with black wood cabin accents.
The 2017 Ram 3500 offers superior working capabilities, both in its powertrain and in its design, with the option for some serious comfort in the cabin.
