Take advantage of the warmer months with these summer activities in Colorado

No matter what season it is, Colorado offers beautiful scenery and fun activities for its visitors and residents. However, there are a handful of things you can only do in the summer, like kayaking and swimming. Here are a few can’t-miss activities for the remainder of your summer in Colorado.

Browns Canyon Rafting

With the beautiful mountains and waterways in Colorado, whitewater rafting is a popular activity in the summertime. Located in Buena Vista, Colorado, Browns Canyon Rafting offers plenty of options for its visitors. You can choose your whitewater rafting route based on your experience and desired difficulty; kayaking and rafting trips can be scheduled in half day, full day or multi-day increments. In addition to whitewater rafting, visitors can enjoy kayaking, zip lining and horseback riding. There are activities on the grounds for the whole family to enjoy.

State Forest State Park

With an incredible 71,000 acres of land, State Forest State Park has impressive sites and experiences to offer. The park has been coined the Moose Capital of the World, with over 600 moose to see year-round. Alongside the wildlife observation, visitors can enjoy beautiful lake views, hiking, fishing, geocaching and four-wheeling in the summer warmth. For an easier commute, campgrounds and cabins are available for reservation. With all of the park’s activities, boredom will not be a concern for any of its visitors.

Lakeside Amusement Park

True to its name, Lakeside Amusement Park offers rides, trains and more right on the lakeshore. With beautiful lake and mountain views, thrill seekers can enjoy photo-worthy sights while they soar through the air. The facility also hosts events like birthday parties and summer camps for its younger visitors.

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo

The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo offers viewings of over 750 animals, 170 species and 30 endangered species across 146 acres. The zoo is also home to the largest giraffe herd represented in any zoo; visitors can also feed the giraffes during their visit. In addition to the animal exhibits, the zoo offers a variety of rides and attractions including a carousel and an open-air chairlift called the Mountaineer Sky Ride.

Segway Tours

A fun, thrilling way to explore any city is on a segway. Many cities offer segway tours, including Colorado’s very own Colorado Springs. Adventures Out West offers several different tour options with varying routes and durations. Segway tours begin with a 30-minute training session to allow riders to experiment with the segway and get a feel for how it works. Keep in mind, there are often age restrictions for segway tours—Adventures Out West limits its tours to ages 12 and up.

Colorado has plenty of sights to see and adventures to embark on year-round, but there are some things you can only do in the summer. Take advantage of the warmer months and explore everything the beautiful state has to offer.
