The PIN-MIC™

The PIN-MIC™ lavaliere system has been designed by a sound recordist to provide maximum flexibility in microphone placement. This flexibility is achieved by the use of patented PIN-MIC™ pins that can lock onto most fabrics without damage. The PIN-MIC™ pins carry the audio signal to the backplate, enabling the cable to be concealed. The low profile PIN-MIC™ is available in matt silver and black and, used on its own, blends well with most ties, coat lapels or even T-shirts. The PIN-MIC™ is also easy to conceal, and can be incorporated into a brooch, badge or button.

The PIN-MIC™ microphone uses an omni directional unit that has excellent signal to noise ratio, and flat frequency response to 16k. The backplate also contains embedded RF suppression. (RF leakage has never occurred during our field tests. This also applies to buzzing or crackling from the pin system that has continued to run perfectly after hundreds of applications.)

Hints and Care
When applying the PIN-MIC™ backplate to a garment, place it so the lead falls naturally down, ensuring the 3 pins will always be in the same configuration for easy placement of the PIN-MIC™ head. Another tip is to always place the PIN-MIC™ back onto the backplate when you remove it from the wearer. By using the backplate as a holder you reduce the risk of losing the PIN-MIC™. When using the plastic sleeve to fit covers such as brooches or badges, only about 1mm of the mesh needs to be exposed for full bandwidth operation. As with other lavalieres, the PIN-MIC&trade needs little in the way of maintenance; look for build up around the pins, and if necessary clean with alcohol and an old toothbrush.

Accessories
The PIN-MIC™ has some extras that make it truly versatile. There are 3 types of backplates for use on fabrics of various thicknesses - from T-shirts to suit jackets. (The medium backplate is supplied as standard. Short and long backplates are also available.) You can view our range of jeweler designed brooches below.

There are many kinds of uses for customers:
  1. Documentaries and interviews like those on Barbara Walters, 60 Minutes, ET, Extra, Access Hollywood, Cathy and Regis etc. where the lav mic is exposed. The PIN-MIC is a revolutionary break-thru in that it is no longer necessary to see the mic and unsightly cables. Compared to the PIN-MIC™, exposed lavs look downright ugly. It changes the whole way mics are seen in a non-distracting fashion.

  2. Network and local news who expose mics. This is an outright improvement in looks. A bonus is that it is designed to also be hidden under a logo. Management may decide to advertise their company in lieu of looking at an unsightly lav mic and cable.

  3. Production sound for films and TV, when a lav must be hidden. The PIN-MIC™ is easier to use than taping on a mic or putting it in a vampire clip. Clips and tape often come undone at inopportune times and a normal lav falls to the belly button where it sounds terrible and may cause a re-take. Less tape also means less clothes rustle. The PIN-MIC™ also designed to be used under a shirt button. It's a useful tool for every sound kit.

  4. Theatre - The PIN-MIC™ is easier to place anywhere on the wardrobe than any other lav mic. It's small enough to be completely exposed but still unseen.. Since wind is never an issue, the PIN-MIC™ should be the de-facto standard for stage shows.

  5. Surveillance and law enforcement. There is nothing better out there than hiding the PIN-MIC™ under a button.

  6. Churches - The PIN-MIC™ is easier to wear than any other lav mic. A cross mic to wear exposed is also available.

  7. Videography - The easier way to go for all video projects from weddings and industrials to the legal uses for court or depositions. Keep a low profile look while you guarantee rock solid audio for when you only get one chance at it.

*More refinements are coming soon, including different color covers to match clothing, a pen edition and smaller PIN-MICS™.
