NAWBO D/FW Continues to Grow and Achieve a Higher Profile

NAWBO D/FW has grown in membership over the last several months as a result of our members sharing their enthusiasm about NAWBO with other women business owners, especially during our very successful membership drive last month. We will continue to grow by developing and implementing a plan to expand regionally, so that women business owners in outlying areas can have easier access to the many benefits that NAWBO offers. Our Regional Expansion Task Force, co-chaired by Dawn Brinson, president-elect of NAWBO D/FW, and Donna Butterfield, first vice president of Bank One Texas and a NAWBO Corporate Partner, has held its first meeting and is moving quickly to turn many great ideas into reality. As part of our regional expansion, we will soon be moving our monthly luncheons to a location that is more convenient for more of our members in the Metroplex; please watch your NAWBO emails for an announcement of the new location.
Our chapter has also continued to increase its profile in the community via local media and pre-election involvement. In October, NAWBO was featured in the Dallas Business Journal’s October 15th issue, in an op-ed titled “Women, their companies and politics: Women business owners will have a big say in the ’04 presidential election.” If you missed it, pick up a copy of the publication, or see http://dallas.bizjournals.com/dallas/stories/2004/10/18/editorial2.html. Also in October, NAWBO D/FW presented endorsement letters and contributions to congressional candidates Rep. Pete Sessions (district 32) and Arlene Wolgemuth (district 17), on behalf of the NAWBO Political Action Committee (NAWBO PAC). Created by NAWBO, the NAWBO PAC is a non-partisan federal PAC that endorses and provides financial contributions to candidates who support the public policy platform established by NAWBO’s Public Policy Council.
And…NAWBO D/FW will celebrate its 20th Anniversary in 2005! The centerpiece of our anniversary celebration will be an exciting new evening event (the first annual) that will honor the top women business owners in five to 10 major industry segments, from among all 25,000+ women-owned businesses in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. This event will also raise funds for the Grameen women’s micro-lending initiative in North Texas.
