2004 Fraser Basin Council Sustainability Awards
Just 10 Days Left to Nominate Your Sustainability Champions!
The Fraser Basin Council is seeking nominations for the 2004 Sustainability Awards.
Each year, thousands of men, women and young people, working with hundreds of community organizations, businesses, First Nations, youth groups and government agencies dedicate countless hours to help ensure a sustainable future for the Fraser River Basin.
The Sustainability Awards honour these sustainability champions and showcase their contributions in five categories:
- Understanding Sustainability
- Strengthening Communities
- Caring for Ecosystems
- Improving Decision-Making
- Overall Sustainability Award (for outstanding achievements by a person or organization in multiple categories.)
Since the Awards were launched in 1998, hundreds of organizations, businesses and communities from around BC have been nominated. This year’s winners will be announced at the 2004 Sustainability Awards luncheon that closes the 4th Biennial State of the Fraser Basin Conference (November 26 & 27). The Overall Sustainability Award will be presented by Lieutenant-Governor Iona Campagnolo, the former chair of the Fraser Basin Council.

The Fraser Basin – the area drained by the Fraser River and its many tributaries – is almost as large as California. Stretching 1400 kilometres from the Rockies to Richmond, the Basin covers more than 25% of the province. 80% of BC’s economic activity is generated in the Basin. For two out of every three British Columbians – or 2.7 million people – it’s the place we call home.
The Fraser Basin Council is a non-profit society established in 1997 to bring people together to find solutions to long-standing issues and conflicts, and take advantage of opportunities to advance sustainability in the Fraser River Basin. Our vision is for a Fraser Basin where social well-being is supported by a vibrant economy and sustained by a healthy environment.
