Roger Elswick, owner of Community Toyota*Honda*KIA, was recently named “Citizen of the Year” for 2012 by the Baytown Sun.
Nominations for this honor are solicited from the Baytown Sun readership, and the award is given based on a vote by past “Citizen of the Year” winners. The awards ceremony was held at the Baytown Sun offices on March 29. Another Community employee, Jim Wadzinski, was also nominated for the award and honored as an “Unsung Hero” in the same ceremony.
Elswick says his motivation to give free cars to exemplary students, donate thousands of dollars to education projects, and spend countless hours of his time with various service projects is his love of God.
“It’s extremely important to give back, because God has blessed me with so much” says Elswick. “There is so much of God’s blessings around me, and I feel it’s important to share those because we have so many in our community with so much need.”
That giving includes volunteer and financial support for the GCCISD Education Foundation, the Rotary Club of Baytown, the Kiwanis Club of Baytown, the Baytown Chamber of Commerce Partners in Education program, the Service League of Baytown, the Baytown Little Theater, and many, many other notable charities and non-profit organizations through the area.
