The 2012 Land Rover LR4 has been named “Best Big Utility” by Winding Road magazine in its recently released “Best Car of the Year” awards.

Winding Road hands out annual honors to the best drivers’ vehicles across a wide array of automotive segments including size, form and functionality. Hundreds of vehicles are reviewed and evaluated each year. The “Best Big Utility” award claimed by the LR4 is the first Winding Road honor for Land Rover.

The publication praised the full-capability luxury SUV for its combination of off-road capability and premium on-road luxury and ride quality. “Think of off-roading in style, and the Land Rover LR4 immediately comes to mind,” states a Winding Road article describing the honorees. “As we found out [in the] San Juan Mountains of Colorado, it’s incredibly capable, allowing one to drive places that you’d think a vehicle just shouldn’t go. The LR4 laughs at mud and rocks and snow, taking on any type of rough stuff with its Terrain Response System, four-corner air suspension and hill descent control.”

Capable of accommodating up to seven passengers comfortably, the 2012 LR4 features significant audio/infotainment upgrades, a new compact Smart Key fob, an 825-watt harman/kardon® audio system with 17 speakers, a new standard seven-inch touch-screen, a revised touch-screen navigation system with voice activation, Traffic Message Channel capability, voice control for multiple devices, a revised rear-seat entertainment system with WhiteFire wireless control, new 19- and 20-inch alloy wheel designs
and new paint colors.

Even with a large amount of new features, Winding Road notes that the LR4 sticks to the classic Land Rover format in its overall design. “It is chock-full of Land Rover heritage, as is apparent at first glance. It evokes admiring looks without drawing too much attention to itself.” To view the full Winding Road report, visit www.windingroad.com.

Land Rover prides itself on its ability to brilliantly combine off-road power with on-road style. The LR4 fits the classic Land Rover mold while adding the latest technology. Take the “Best Big Utility” on an off-road adventure or just for a quick spin around town.
Either way, the LR4 will always handle the job while looking good at the same time – that’s the true beauty of a Land Rover.
