Arts Festival Alumni Weekend

Article related photo.THON, football, graduation and Arts Festival are the biggest weekends of the year in State College and at Penn State. Don’t miss out on all the fun of the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, July 11–15. Check out these five reasons you should be part of the Alumni Association’s Arts Festival Alumni Weekend this summer.

Art galore and more. Pottery, paintings and whimsical art will be everywhere during the 46th Annual Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts. Lining the Mall, throughout the streets of State College and inside a number of churches and galleries, gorgeous handicrafts await to be savored, appreciated and taken home.

Music in the air. More than 40 performing groups from all over the country—and several from other parts of the world—will be entertaining crowds from the five main stages of Arts Festival. Performing for the LAST time ever will be festival favorite Cartoon with Special Guest Jamie Rounds [link to: www.cartoonadventures.com]. Other highlights include Boston-based rockers The Velveteen Playboys, European Celtic band Comas, The Raleigh Ringers handbell choir, and Philadelphia favorite jazz/funk/rock band the Dirk Quinn Band.

Stay in the dorms. Channel your dorm days by staying on campus, just steps from the Arts Festival route. Rooms in West Halls are $45 per person—including breakfast—but only if you are part of Arts Festival Alumni Weekend.

Cool new events. Beat the heat with a family skate at the Penn State Ice Pavilion, take a swim at Penn State’s outdoor pool or get an inside peek tour of the making of the Arts Festival—all part of the Arts Festival Alumni Weekend.

Festival food. Almost synonymous with the Arts Festival are the cherry strudel, chicken on a stick and other favorite street vendor foods. Savor your snacks while walking around or cop a spot under a shade tree for a much-needed break.
