EIA: US Retail Gasoline Average Jumps 6.8cts to 5-month High

The average price for all formulations of regular grade gasoline increased 6.8cts to a five-month high at $3.591 gallon for the week-ended Feb. 20, according to data released by the Energy Information Administration.
 
The national average for the week is 40.2cts above the comparable year-ago price point.
 
EIA reported retail gasoline prices made the greatest weekly increase along the West Coast where retail gasoline prices spiked 16.9cts, averaging $3.896 gallon, which is 41.5cts above the corresponding 2011 period. The Pacific Northwest average gained 11.3cts to $3.655 gallon, marking an increase of 30.3cts from the corresponding year-ago period.
 
In California, retail gasoline prices rose 20.0cts to average $4.035 gallon for the period profiled, with prices in Los Angeles up 20.5cts at $4.123 gallon.
 
Consumers in the state of Washington saw pump prices rise 13.8cts to $3.681 gallon, while prices in Seattle increased 13.6cts to $3.732 gallon.
 
The Midwest region registered a 5.7cts increase to $3.464 gallon for the week, which is up 32.4cts on the year. The average for retail regular grade gasoline in Minnesota rose 3.3cts to $3.450 gallon, while consumers in Ohio saw retail gasoline prices jump 16.7cts to $3.480 gallon. In Chicago, pump prices inched up 0.2cts to $3.524 gallon.
 
Along the Gulf Coast, regional average increased 4.8cts to $3.479 gallon. That’s up 44.9cts from the reported during the same week a year ago. The data showed gasoline pump prices in Texas up 4.4cts on the week to $3.497 gallon.
 
Along the East Coast, retail gasoline averaged $3.654 gallon, increasing 4.2cts on the week while 48.0cts higher on the year. In New England, the average price was up 4.8cts at $3.692 gallon for the week-ended Feb. 20. Retail regular grade gasoline in New York State climbed 4.1cts for the period profiled to $3.852 gallon.
 
Data showed the average price for retail regular grade gasoline in the Central Atlantic posted a weekly gain of 4.3cts at $3.670 gallon.
 
The Lower Atlantic states gained 3.0cts to $3.630 gallon, while the average regular grade pump price in Florida jumped a sharp 20.0cts to $3.662 gal.
 
In the Rocky Mountain region, the price rose 2.6cts to $3.097 gal, an increase of 2.7cts on the year.
