“
VoteSmartFlorida.org
is pleased with the initial recommendations of the committee,” said
Rick McAllister, president and CEO, Florida Retail Federation and VoteSmartFlorida.org
Alliance Partner. “After
hearing public testimony from voters across the state, the committee
listened and proposed thoughtful solutions to this serious issue.”
“VoteSmartFlorida.org
has conducted extensive statewide research and has found Florida voters
strongly support changes to the constitutional amendment process, and
they want the changes now,” said Mark Wilson, spokesperson for VoteSmartFlorida.org.
The
Committee addressed VoteSmartFlorida.org’s three primary recommendations:
-
Move
the deadline for amendment qualification to January 1 of the election
year, rather than the current 91 days before the election.
-
Urge
the Florida Legislature to place on the ballot and the people
to approve an amendment requiring a 2/3 vote to pass future constitutional
changes.
- Urge
the above recommendations be incorporated into a joint resolution
and placed on the ballot for the August 31 primary election.
