With class-leading standard performance, sophisticated styling and a host of features, there’s a lot to like about the 2012 Chrysler 200 Touring. Perhaps the Touring’s most appealing attribute, however, is what it lacks: The high sticker price of its competitors.

Judged on looks alone, the newest 200 (MSRP $18,995) is perhaps one of the most attractive sedans to drop out of Detroit in some time, thanks in no small part to its sleek, sophisticated design, carefully sculpted front fascia and subtly sporty bodywork. The Touring trim (starting MSRP $21,370), which jumps into the 200 line just above the entry model LX, offers an appealing and thoughtful middle ground to discerning drivers hoping for both high performance and affordability. In addition to its signature grille and dashes of chrome, the Touring features standard automatic headlamps, LED taillamps and power-heated side mirrors, along with available 18-inch aluminum wheels and a power sunroof.

Where the Touring shines brightest is beneath the hood, as the newest 200 sports a pair of engine choices certain to satiate the needs of casual drivers and thrill seekers alike. The 200 comes standard with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder, which makes good on its promise of performance and efficiency by generating 173 hp, 166 lb/ft of torque and 31 highway mpg through a standard six-speed automatic. Choose the available 3.6-liter Pentastar® V6 (and accompanying AutoStick® six-speed) and you’ll see output jump to a best-in-class 283 hp and 260 lb/ft of torque with fuel economy ratings hovering around 29 highway mpg.

No matter which engine you choose, the 200 Touring delivers refined driving mechanics and handling. A MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension setup ensures an impressive balance of smoothness and responsiveness while standard four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, electronic stability control and all-speed traction control systems deliver confident cornering and dynamic, vehicle-assisted steering.

Behind the advanced sound absorbers and acoustic laminated glass in the 200, its sophisticated, quiet cabin is awash in soft LED light, attractive accents and durable, premium fabrics and materials. An eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat comes standard on the Touring, as does the thoughtful leather wrapping on the steering wheel and shiftknob.

Sleek bucket seats, a dramatic gauge design and steering wheel-mounted controls create an engaging and inviting cockpit, one that’s enhanced by a standard six-speaker audio system, SiriusXM Satellite Radio and an auxiliary audio jack. The optional Chrysler Uconnect system adds Bluetooth streaming audio and connectivity while a high-strength body design, active headrests and standard front, side and side-curtain airbags ensure that the 200 is fully-equipped with advanced safety measures.

Detroit’s resurgence is no accident. Sophisticated, powerful and impressively stylish vehicles like the 2012 Chrysler 200 Touring have led the city’s charge back to the peak of automotive innovation. Bursting with sought-after features and offering available best-in-class V6 performance, the Touring makes the desirable affordable.
