This engine is paired with a five-speed Electronically Controlled automatic Transmission with intelligence (ECT-i) equipped with Sequential Shift Mode and Uphill/Downhill Shift Logic. There are two available V8 engines, a 4.6-liter i-Force V8 with 310 hp and 327 lb/ft, and a 5.7-liter i-Force V8 with 381 hp and 401 lb/ft of torque. Both i-Force V8 engines are paired with six-speed ECT-i transmissions that feature the Sequential Shift Mode and Uphill/Downhill Shift Logic and, in some models TOW/HAUL mode. Both meet Ultra-Low Emissions Vehicle II (ULEV II) emissions certification requirements.

Making sure the perfect truck is easier to build, Toyota has streamlined and simplified the option packages for the 2012 model year. Other notable changes for the 2012 pickup include a standard back-up camera on certain models (Limited and TRD Rock Warrior Packages), as well as a new Chrome Package for Double Cab and CrewMax models. Of the new packages, the Tundra Work Truck Package is designed for the business owner and corporate sectors. It is a tough, no-frills truck with outstanding towing and cargo capacity. It is available in Regular Cab and Double Cab configurations with your choice of any of the Tundra’s three engines. The package features heavy-duty seating surfaces and all-weather flooring.

If your ideal truck needs a bit more comfort and luxury, the Platinum Package (available on Tundra CrewMax Limited) offers such niceties as heated and ventilated front bucket seats, embroidered headrests and seating surfaces trimmed with perforated leather. The Platinum Package also includes a power tilt/slide moonroof with sliding sunshade, and wood-grain-style interior trim pieces. All CrewMax models feature a segment-exclusive reclining and sliding rear seat. Combine this with the cavernous 44.5 inches of maximum rear legroom, over six inches more than a Cadillac STS full-size sedan, and comfort abounds for all passengers.

The available 4x4 drivetrain in the Tundra is capable of pulling you and your gear to many otherwise inaccessible locations, and for those who need a bit more grunt, Toyota also offers the TRD Rock Warrior Special Edition Package. The package, available on 4x4 models, features an off-road tuned suspension with Bilstein® gas-charged mono-tube shock absorbers, and BFGoodrich® All-Terrain T/A KO tires mounted on 17-inch TRD Rock Warrior forged alloy wheels. Available in Radiant Red, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Super White or Black exterior colors with color-keyed front bumper and grille surround, the TRD Rock Warrior is also equipped with foglamps and privacy glass.
