The 2012 Honda Fit is aptly named. Within this compact five-door's modest footprint, you can pack an astounding amount of accouterment into one of the most flexible interior spaces ever designed.
Honda put 90.8 cubic feet of interior space, almost as much as you'll find in a much larger Toyota Camry within the tidy 98.4-inch wheelbase of the Fit. Never content to sit back and rest on its engineering laurels, Honda has improved the Fit for 2012 with updated styling for the Fit Sport, upgrades in the cabin and new standard features that are joined by more optional equipment as well.
The 2012 Honda Fit is the same attractive, friendly-sized hatchback with easy maneuverability that's been winning friends since its debut. Tight city streets aren't a problem, and the Fit features a cargo floor that's flatter and lower than anything else you can buy in the class, which makes its giant 57.3 cubic feet of cargo volume (again, more than anything in its class) some of the easiest space to use in any vehicle.
The interior, with added sound insulation for 2012 for a more serene cabin, keeps its exclusive second-row Magic Seat® that offers plenty of options for loading the items of life, and there are 10 beverage holders standard, along with a 160-watt audio system with USB and auxiliary input. All Fit models use a 117 hp i-VTEC® engine that makes the most of its 1.5 liters without asking for much fuel in return; the 2012 Fit earned an EPA economy rating of 28 mpg city and 35 mpg highway. A five-speed manual comes standard, and a five-speed automatic is also available.
There are two 2012 Fit models: Fit and Fit Sport. The Fit (MSRP starting at $15,175) features the spunky powertrain, a sporty-feeling chassis and 15-inch wheels. Beneath it all is the Honda Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure, which directs crash energy into the structures in the body meant to absorb it. Dual-stage, multiple-threshold front airbags, augmented by side and side-curtain airbags with the Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS) for the passenger, are standard, along with active head restraints for the front seats. Cruise control, air conditioning, blue backlit gauges and tinted glass are also standard.
The 2012 Honda Fit Sport adds body accents that give a more aggressive flair with a body-colored underbody kit and 16-inch alloy wheels to fill the fenders. A chrome exhaust tip and rear spoiler maintain the theme around back. Foglights are added up front, and
underneath, the Fit Sport gains a rear stabilizer bar. For extra driving fun, steering wheel-mounted paddleshifters are added to Fit Sport models with the automatic transmission. The Fit Sport is more distinctive for 2012 with its new front bumper and grille design, and black headlight bezels, too.
The 2012 Fit Sport models gain further interior enhancements in the form of dark metallic accents on the dashboard and chrome touches on the instrument panel. Standard steering wheel mounted audio controls and upgraded seat fabric further set the Fit Sport apart, and available Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® enhances safety by keeping your hands on the wheel and off your phone. The Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System™ is also available; it features Voice Recognition and a 6.5-inch display to clearly show you more than seven million points of interest. The system uses 16GB flash memory instead of the previous DVD-based data storage.
The 2012 Honda Fit is as trouble-free as it is fun, too.
