Plan to attend FreedomFest 2011 in Show Low, Arizona on July 4. This Independence Day celebration is one of the biggest in all of Arizona with close to 50,000 people expected to take part in the celebration. Get a feel for “Main Street America” at the parade, which features the theme “Arizona Centennial” in acknowledgement of the state’s 100th anniversary of statehood in 2012. New Mexico’s Carlsbad Caverns National Park invites you to attend a Star Party to see the Milky Way. Away from the interference of urban lights, the park is a fabulous location for viewing the night sky. If weather allows, telescopes will be available to give you a closer look. Plus, the ranger-led program will touch on a variety of subjects from astronomy and folklore to nocturnal animals. Star Parties are held in the main East parking lot in front of the visitors center.
