On April 8, 2011, Pickens County Department of Social Services was recognized as the DSS Agency of the Year for 2011 during the South Carolina Foster Parent Association’s annual awards banquet held at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Greenville, SC. County Director, Keith Frazier, Human Service Coordinator Dena Green, FC worker, Helena Turner, FC Worker, Kari Chapman and FC Worker, Jennifer Lukridge were present to receive this honor.
During the banquet, the South Carolina Parent Association paid tribute to Chrystal Harrison. Chrystal was a foster care worker with Pickens County DSS. She and one of our foster children were involved in a wreck where they lost their lives. Two other children were involved in the wreck and had sustained injuries that needed surgery.
The agency was presented with a beautiful award to be given to Chrystal's family. Keith Frazier was asked to light a candle in memory of workers and foster children that have died over the past year.
“The automobile wreck that took Chrystal's life was a terrible tragedy and will affect our county for quite a long time,” said Pickens County DSS Director, Keith Frazier. "We are very thankful that the SC Foster Parent Association has recognized Crystal and her dedication to her job and the families she worked with everyday. Chrystal will always be a big part of our hearts at Pickens County DSS."
