Since 2006, Symantec Corporation has been diligently working to align company operations and strategies with the United Nation's Global Compact's ten principles, which focus on human rights, labor rights, environmental stewardship, and anti-corruption practices. In recognition of these efforts, earlier this year Symantec was invited to join Global Compact LEAD, a new platform for corporate responsibility leadership.

 

In addition, Symantec’s Director of Corporate Responsibility, Cecily Joseph, serves as the US business representative to the UN Global Compact, and Symantec is an active member of the UN Global Compact US Network. The US Network’s most recent meeting focused on the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDG). The eight MDG have targets for achieving worldwide progress in:

Symantec’s efforts regarding the Global Compact principles also directly contribute to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals, including those focused on gender equality. In this edition of the Snapshot, we illustrate how Symantec’s efforts relate to the advancement of women’s rights.

 

• Supporting the Calvert Women's Principles^TM, Gender Equality Principles, and Women's Empowerment Principles.
• Increasing representation of women in Symantec's leadership to match their overall representation within the company.
• "Building the pipeline" of female science, technology, engineering, and mathematics professionals.
• Conducting an annual Diversity & Inclusion survey to gauge attitudes, identify areas where we can do better, and measure the success of our current education programs in terms of raising awareness, understanding, and tolerance.
