TGH Neighborhood Updates

Allston Brighton - Received a grant of up to $90,000 to fund facilities improvements to their PowerUP Center located at Brighton High School. The grantor is the Facilities Initiative, a project of the Child Care Capital Investment Fund and Parents United for Child Care. The vision for the project is to create a multi-use space that works for both computer instruction and non-computer instruction, supporting the variety of classes and programs that utilize that space each day.

Codman Square - Graduated 20 adults from their combined TGH / family day care providers program developed in collaboration with Learning Ladders of Federated Dorchester Neighborhood Houses Inc. This joint program enables adults to gain the computer skills and credentials necessary for daycare certification.

Congratulations to the TGH families who started attending a degree granting program in social sciences at Lesley University. The students are Sharon Higgins, Catherine Heraldo, Joycelyn Browne, Ruthella Logan-Cruz, Roger Houston-August and Myrtle Blackwell -August.

Grove Hall has hired Lisa Darling, as the new TGH program coordinator. Lisa joined the John D'Obryant Learning Center from Cisco. Congratulations to Lisa who began work on the first day of "spring training" at the Grove Hall Collaborative.

Lower Roxbury and Codman Square are recipients of the BostonConnects Boston Empowerment Zone grant entitled "Information Technology PLUS (IT+)." Both neighborhood collaboratives have received over $100,000 each to train people with various levels of IT experience. Programming is scheduled to begin in the next few months.

Mission Hill welcomes Kadesh Simms a former TGH graduate who has taken the helm as the Mission Main Coordinator. Kadesh graduated from TGH two years ago and has stayed involved in the program since.

Uphams Corner welcomes Dayshell Reeves who recently joined Uphams Corner as the TGH Coordinator. Dayshell joins the team from Madison Park Development Corporation.
