Allston - Brighton Family Delivers Keynote Speech
My life in Boston and the Impact TGH has made on it
by Natasha Iftica

My name is Natasha Iftica. I came to USA two years ago with my family. We are from Albania. Before we came here we didn’t speak English. We talked with people with body language. It was very hard for us to communicate with people and to find a job. After a month we started to use a library to get a books, to learn English step-by-step. We also started to speak day by day English in our house, so we could learn more and more, day by day.

In library we meet new friends, and they helped us to find a conversation groups, we found flyers for the different kind of programs on ABCDC to help people to learn English and computer.

When we learned about TGH program, my son was telling me many times to get in that program and I wasn’t sure for myself, because I didn’t know anything about a computer. When I went on interview with Wendy, she gived to me a big courage. She told me you need to learn for yourself, to help your children for the school, and to find a good job.

When we went in htat program we learned the basic things about computer. We learn to write letters, to draw different kind of picture, how to use a Internet. We like so much this program, because without training and practice you never learn things.

This program is good because you meet people from different country with different culture, practice English with them, share everything and help each other.

We want to thank our instructors the name is Wendy, because she was very helpful, we got everytime help from her for that hard time, and we liked having her as our instructors.

After I finish this program, I went in other program, in Step-Up Job Training program for 4 months. Was not easy for me because I was just beginner with computer, and this program was more advanced, but with study and much work you can do everything. Everywhere, every begin is not easy, but with learning and practice nothing is impossible.

When I was at TGH program, I found a part-time job shelver at library. After I finish Step-Up program I got a full time job, library assistant, when I’m still working now. I’m very proud we are in this community, with different kind of programs to help the immigrants to learn English, computer, office-skills etc, because without that help we couldn’t learn new things for us, and find a good job and good education.

Now my children know how to play with computer, sometimes to get help when they need for homework and they are doing very good in school. Also I learned a good lesson from them, because when they told me ‘We are going to do the Exam test,” I told them, “Is to early for you and you can’t do it.” But they didn’t listen to me. They was pretty sure to get that test. I feel so proud with them because they are winner for that test, next year they are going in examination schools.

I want to say thank you to everybody who helps this community, those programs, because without their help, we never can get a good opportunity and education and working together for making much better this community for better live in Allston-Brighton.
