Fire Up Your Grill – It’s Burger Time!
Burgers must be why summertime cookouts were created.

Whether you like it medium-rare or well done, with ketchup and mustard or your favorite sauce, there’s no better time for a burger than summertime! This time, skip the standard patty and go for something even more delicious.

Fun Fact: Louis’ Lunch in New Haven, Connecticut was the first restaurant to serve hamburgers and is the oldest continuously operating hamburger place in the country.

Here are some mouthwatering recipes to try this summer:

Buffalo Sauce Burgers

What you need:

2 pounds ground beef or ground buffalo meat

4 tablespoons butter (cut into small pieces)

1/3 cup hot sauce

1/2 teaspoon celery seed

1/3 cup onion (finely chopped)

Get cooking:

Melt the butter and whisk in the hot sauce. Mix the meat, onion, celery seed and 1/4 cup of the hot sauce mixture in a bowl until blended. Form into patties, cover and refrigerate until ready. When you grill the patties, brush the rest of the hot sauce mixture on the patties during the last couple of minutes of grilling.

Veggie Burger

What you need:

1 cup canned black beans

3 potatoes (grated)

1/2 onion (diced)

4 scallions (chopped)

1 cup corn

1 carrot (grated)

Salt and pepper (to taste)

Olive oil

Get cooking:

Using a potato masher or fork, mash the beans and add in the other ingredients. Shape into patties. Because the patties are soft, you’ll have to cook them in a skillet with a little bit of olive oil. Cook for three minutes on each side.

Stuffed Bacon Cheeseburgers

What you need:

1 pound ground meat

1/2 cup Monterey Jack cheese (shredded)

4 slices cooked bacon (chopped)

Kosher salt and ground black pepper

Get cooking:

Put the Jack cheese and chopped bacon in a bowl. Put the beef in another bowl, season with salt and pepper using a rubber spatula to mix it. Take 1/4 of the meat mixture and flatten it. Take about a tablespoon of the cheese and bacon mixture and squeeze it together into a small ball, placing it in the center of the ground beef. Bring up the sides of the patty over the small ball, completely covering the cheese with the meat. Flatten into a small patty. Grill when ready!

BBQ Pork Burgers

What you need:

1-1/2 pounds ground pork (or beef or turkey)

1 small red onion (minced)

3/4 cup BBQ sauce

Salt and ground pepper

Get cooking:

In a bowl, mix together pork, minced onion, 1/4 cup BBQ sauce, 1 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon of pepper. Form into patties and cook to desired doneness. When the burgers are done, serve with remaining onion and BBQ sauce.

Don’t forget to pick up condiments! In addition to the standards like ketchup and mustard, try barbeque sauce, sautéed veggies and dressings. The possibilities are endless.

Happy grilling!
