They include both manual and automated techniques developed primarily for the intelligence profession (e.g., personality profiling) and developed by other disciplines and supported by CI professionals (e.g., war gaming and scenario planning).
Secondary information sources: information collected from any source other than from speaking with or observing another person. They include written information from printed or electronic sources, original source documents and reviews or summaries of such documents, and technical information such as photographs, equipment, or water samples.
Primary (human) information sources: information collected by persons speaking with or observing another person, e.g., on the phone or at trade shows. They include information obtained from the collection target as well as observers or experts, collection from people from within your firm and from outside, and information collected by you and by those hired by you.
